Provision of a new grade separated junction on the A63 in Hull, with the aim not just of improving traffic flow, but also improving access to the port of Hull, and reconnecting Hull city centre with the river by reducing the barrier effect of the current A63.
This will be achieved by lowering the level of Castle Street by 7 metres into a cutting, as part of the grade separation of the Mytongate junction. Ferensway and Commercial Street would be raised by a metre to pass over the junction.
The scheme also includes widening of the eastbound A63 carriageway to provide three lanes between Princes Dock Street and Market Lane.
Public exhibitions have been held in Spring 2009 and the Preferred Route Announcement is expected in early 2010.
The preferred route has now been announced.
Following the autumn spending review, the DfT has decided to continue preparatory work on this scheme, with a view to starting construction after 2015.
The start of development work was announced today.
Some of the space needed to construct one of the slip roads currently forms part of the Trinity Burial Ground. It is estimated that up to 16,000 burials may be situated within this area - any remains would need to be exhumed and re-buried before any construction work could begin. The Highways Agency website states that they plan to submit the Development Consent Order in Spring 2015.
Additional public consultation exhibitions will take place on 27-28 January 2017.
